The resort

Andermatt, in the heart of the Swiss Alps (Urserntal, canton of Uri, 1,444 m), went from a sleepy military garrison to a top-tier resort after Samih Sawiris's investment and the lift link to Sedrun in 2018 — creating the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun (~120 km, up to 180 km with Disentis). The Gemsstock (2,961 m) is a freeride mecca, with reliable snow and long descents; the sunny Nätschen–Oberalp–Sedrun side offers wide pistes and family terrain. You reach the village by direct train (SBB to Göschenen plus the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) — no car required.

The village

The village blends the historic houses of the Gotthardstrasse with the new Andermatt Reuss district — a pedestrian square, hotels (The Chedi, Radisson Blu Reussen), restaurants and ski-friendly apartments, all a few minutes from the train station and the Gütsch-Express gondola. Sedrun, on the other side of the Oberalp, is quieter and more rural (Romansh Surselva), linked by train and pistes.
