The resort
Nicknamed the "Diamond of the Alps", Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is one of Austria's highest resorts, at the head of the Ötztal valley. Its two sectors, joined by the Top-Express cable car, offer 112 km of mostly blue and red pistes between 1,793 and 3,030 m, with reliable snow from November to April. You get there via Munich (MUC), with an ÖBB train to Ötztal Bahnhof and a bus via Sölden — or a direct transfer in ~2h30-3h.

The village
Obergurgl, at 1,930 m, is one of the highest villages in the Austrian Alps: quiet, sophisticated and with no through-traffic as it sits at the end of the road. Higher up, Hochgurgl (2,150 m) lines up wide north-facing pistes, access to the Wurmkogl at 3,080 m and upmarket hotels.
