The resort

Flaine is the gateway to the Grand Massif, one of the largest ski areas in the Alps, with 265 km of pistes linking five villages on a single pass. Born in the 1960s to a design by architect Marcel Breuer, it rises in Bauhaus-inspired exposed concrete within a north-facing bowl between 1,600 and 2,500 m, which guarantees reliable snow from December to April. Reached via Geneva (GVA), around 70 km / 1h by road.

The village

The resort is entirely pedestrian and ski-in/ski-out: you leave the car at the entrance and reach your apartment on foot, skis on, straight to the gondola. Breuer's béton brut ensemble — the Forum, the Forêt and Montsoleil — is now 20th-century heritage, dotted with open-air artworks by Picasso, Vasarely and Dubuffet that make Flaine an open-air museum on the snow.
