The resort
A discreet village in the Valle d'Aosta at 1,441 m, at the foot of the Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo, La Thuile is the Italian gateway to the Espace San Bernardo — 152 km of pistes linked by ski to La Rosière, in the French Savoie, under a single lift pass. One of the snowiest and most vertical ski areas in the Alps, it leans towards reds and blacks (49% + 12%) between 1,441 and 2,642 m, ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers. Reached via Geneva (GVA, ~2h15) through the Mont Blanc tunnel and Courmayeur; no train to the village.

The village
A calm atmosphere and long descents, with fewer crowds than the big names: the Les Suches gondola climbs straight to the ski area from the centre. On the other side of the pass, the French slope of La Rosière offers a sunny, family-friendly balcony, crossing the border on skis.
