Avoriaz is a purpose-built, car-free resort at 1,800 m — the highest and snowiest point of the Portes du Soleil (~600 km straddling the French-Swiss border). Iconic timber architecture, complete ski-in/ski-out and not a car in sight. Reached via Geneva (~1h30) plus the cable car up from Morzine.

Avoriaz is car-free — you get around on foot, by horse-drawn sleigh or on skis. Its angular timber buildings, set into the cliff face, give it a look all of its own. Very family- and snowboard-friendly (a cradle of freestyle), modern and practical.
