The resort

Châtel is the last Savoyard village in the Abondance valley, right on the Swiss border, inside the ~600 km Portes du Soleil circuit (12 resorts across France and Switzerland). It has two home sectors — sunny, gentle Super-Châtel and north-facing, more technical Linga/Pré-la-Joux — lift-linked at Vonnes since 2015. Reached via Geneva (~1h40).

The village

Châtel is still a real village: Abondance cheese farms, timber chalets and a lived-in centre at ~1,200 m. The Super-Châtel gondola leaves from the centre; the Linga side keeps the best snow. An honest, better-value base than its famous neighbours, with a giant domain on the doorstep.
